Maverick Welsh is an experienced educator having served
as Social Studies Department Chairperson at HISD’s Jefferson Davis High
School and Co-Chairperson of the Houston A+ Challenge Regional History
Faculty Taskforce. Mr. Welsh also served as a
Faculty Advisor for the Teach For America program where he trained future
educators. Mr. Welsh is an experienced webmaster and specializes in
educational technology and its benefits. As Social Studies Department
Chairperson, Mr. Welsh developed and implemented a system whereby teachers
could easily create and post their lesson plans on the departmental website.
This allowed students, parents, and educators a level of transparency which
is rare in the field of education. Mr. Welsh also created and maintains
JoseTrevino.com. Mr. Welsh’s leadership led to significant improvements in
TAKS scores and accountability ratings for Jefferson Davis High School’s
social studies department. Mr. Welsh is currently a Social Studies Teacher at
HISD’s John H. Reagan High School and elected historian for the Proctor Plaza
Neighborhood Association which is one of the largest historical districts in
the state of Texas. Mr. Welsh is active in community leadership and
